First £100k timber week for Dempsey Dyer
Innovative trade fabricator Dempsey Dyer has sold more than £100k of timber in one week for the first time in their 35 year history.
Four factors contributed to the record breaking sales – Dempsey’s commercial division winning a number of lucrative timber contracts, existing timber customers growing, uPVC customers moving into timber and new customers coming on board.
Peter Dyer is delighted with the healthy order book: “Dempsey Dyer has manufactured timber windows, doors and conservatories since 1977 so it’s a nice feeling to break our timber sales record. The timber market is particularly buoyant at the moment, both in the commercial and domestic sectors, and Dempsey Dyer has worked hard to get a slice of this and support our trade customers so they win more orders.”
One major project that has contributed to the record sales is Acre Mill, a listed wire mill which adjoins Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. The mill is being converted into a 56,000 sq ft centralised outpatient centre that is expected to serve over 200,000 appointments every year, and is due to be operational by mid-2014.
Dempsey Dyer designed an original hopper style window for the project and worked closely with the architect Mike Hall of Jefferson and Sheard to ensure the windows were accepted by the areas conservation officers.
“Dempsey Dyer went above and beyond to ensure they won this contact, even going to the extent of designing a bespoke window that was ultimately accepted by the conservation officer” architect Mike Hall commented.
Dempsey Dyer have recently helped several customers enter the lucrative timber market, including Surrey based Sheerwater Glass. Dempsey recently helped Sheerwater revamp their showroom, including a section that now displays timber windows and doors.
“Historically Sheerwater Glass has installed uPVC and aluminium windows, doors and conservatories, but following several meetings with Peter Dyer and a visit to Dempsey’s impressive factory in West Yorkshire, I decided now was the right time to increase our product offering to include Dempsey Dyers complete timber fenestration range” said Mark McCluggage from Sheerwater Glass. Mark continued: “Since the opening of our timber showroom 6 weeks ago, we have secured in excess of £95,000 of new business and have found that margins are better with timber windows and doors. It’s also much less stressful entering a new market with the backing of an established and quality supplier such as Dempsey Dyer, who is willing and able to help with extra business elements such as showroom designs”.
Dempsey Dyer offers a wide variety of timber windows, doors and conservatries, all of which are manufactured using high quality timber species such as Accoya, Sapele, European Oak and European Redwood and carefully crafted to ensure they stand the test of time. An example of Dempsey’s timber expertise is is the 7 degree slope they build into all their frames. This slope stops moisture penetrating the external seals and rotting the wood.
